Therapies: Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a holistic therapy and treats the person as a whole rather than just focusing on a set of symptoms. Holistic therapies take the emotional and spiritual being into account as well as the physical.

Each part of the foot corresponds to a different area or organ of the body. There are over 7,500 nerve endings on each foot and it is believed that using an alternative caterpillar like movement over the different nerve endings has a beneficial effect on the corresponding organ. Sometimes when an area is sore or tight, it indicates some level of disharmony in the corresponding organ or system.

Reflexologists sometimes find crystals in the different parts of the foot and will work to break these down thus relieving symptoms of illness in the body.

Reflexology also encourages the blood and energy to flow more freely throughout the organs of the body, thus helping to bring more nutrients to the organs and helping to clear out toxins.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?

Reflexology helps to restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium and encourages the body to work naturally to heal itself. It is very relaxing and most people will fall asleep or go into a very relaxed state during treatment.

Reflexology is suitable for people of all ages, from babies to the very old and it can bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
