Named after Joseph Pilates the man who developed this system of exercises, Pilates is a body training method that helps build controlled flexibility, long, lean muscles and strength and endurance in the tummy, back, hips, legs, and arms. It emphasises spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing to relieve stress and allow adequate oxygen flow to muscles and toning the tummy and strengthening the back to develop a strong core. It is also a great method for improving coordination and balance.
Pilates is a very flexible and progressive method which allows exercises to be modified to suit beginners’ right through to advanced level participants. Intensity can be increased over time as the body strengthens and adapts to the exercises. Every muscle group is appropriately trained to give its followers enhanced core strength, correct movement patterns, a leaner body and better balance.
